Browser diagramming tools treat a P&ID as clipart. Intelligent P&ID suites are desktop-only and cost thousands per seat. IPD Studio puts real engineering data behind the drawing — free forever under the AGPL.
Instrument bubbles, control valves with actuators & fail actions, safety devices, flow elements, vessels, exchangers, solids handling — plus your own imported SVG symbols.
Type FIC and the editor knows it's a Flow Indicating Controller. Loop numbers auto-assign, duplicates flag live, control loops derive from the tags.
One-click import into a live operator screen: DCS faceplates, PI control loops, ISA-18.2 alarms, trends, startable pumps and compressors — and trip them for training.
Water blue, steam red, slurry brown — assign a fluid to one line and the color flows through the whole connected run, into the HMI too.
Generated ISA-5.4 loop diagrams, ISA-20 datasheets, instrument index & line list CSV, DEXPI XML, layered DXF for AutoCAD — from the model, not typed by hand.
Installable PWA. Versioned open JSON file format. DXF underlay to redraw legacy drawings. Everything runs without internet.
Use it at work, free. Draw commercial P&IDs, run paid training — your drawings are yours. The AGPL-3.0 covers the software, not your documents.
Copy it, and you share back. Anyone redistributing or hosting a modified IPD Studio must publish their source. Want a closed-source or white-label version instead? A commercial license is available.
